From Announcement to Action: The Campaign Trail So Far

On August 23, I officially announced my candidacy intentions for Saanich Council and the CRD. Since then, the campaign trail has been busy, and those who know me well, know I wouldn't have it any other way!

For me, campaigning isn't just about putting a name on a ballot. It's about getting out into the community, listening, asking questions, having conversations and learning what matters most to the people who live, work and play in Saanich.

Since announcing, I've been knocking on doors,

meeting residents, attending community events, connecting with local organizations and showing up wherever I can. From the Saanich Fair, and GreekFest, to Labour Day with the Victoria Labour Council, attending the various Music in the Park events, community gatherings, coffee chats and conversations in neighbourhoods across Saanich, I have been reminded again and again that Saanich is full of people who care deeply about where we live.

And those conversations connect directly to the pillars of my platform:

The countdown is on!

I've also been sharing a countdown to Election Day that started with 50 Days Till Saanich Votes, and as of today saw a post for 34 Days till Saanich Votes, because October 17th is getting closer every day!

These countdown posts aren't just about the number of days left until the election. They are a chance to talk about the issues, priorities and ideas that I believer deserve attention at the council table and on the campaign trail. From infrastructure and recreation to public safety, responsible growth, parks and environmental stewardship, food security and supporting a vibrant local economy, there is a lot to talk about.

I have also been having some fun along the way. Campaigning is serious business, but I believe politics can, and should, have a sense of humour. You may have seen my post about taking a cold ocean dip today to reset, or sharing a few laughs at GreekFest, poking fun at myself and finding creative ways to bring my campaign to life.

Behind the scenes, there is plenty happening too: organizing signs, preparing campaign materials, writing, filming, planning events, responding to residents and surveys, asking for donations and of course, continuing the conversations happening at the doorstep.

But this campaign isn't about me talking at Saanich. It is about listening to Saanich!

If you have an issue in your neighbourhood, a concern about the future of our community, or an idea you think deserves a closer look, I want to hear from you.

And this is only the beginning.

The countdown continues until Saanich votes on October 17th.

I invite you to follow along, join the conversation, come out to a community event, stop for a coffee and chat, or simply say hello when you see me out and about.

Most importantly, take a look at my platform and learn more about what I am proposing for Saanich.

Visit my website, and suggest others do the same, at KathleenBurton.ca, follow along on social media, and watch as we countdown together to October 17th.

Saanich is changing. Let's make sure we are ready for what comes next. Let's work together!

Thanks for reading!

Always learning,

Kathleen
