Listening to the Community
People, Pets & Nature
Accessible, responsibe local leadership
I've been hearing from many dog owners who are frustrated by the loss of places to walk and exercise their dogs. As a dog owner, I understand those concerns. Your dogs are a part of your families, and they need safe places to run, play and socialize.
At the same time, we all have a responsibility to protect sensitive ecosystems, wildlife habitat, and the natural areas that make Saanich such a special place.
The goal should be to create appropriately sized, well-planned off-leash and on-leash dog-friendly spaces that meet the needs of our growing community while reducing impacts on environmentally sensitive areas.
When we invest in the right spaces - with good design, clear signage, accessible locations, and responsible stewardship - we can support both responsible dog ownership and environmental protection.
The best solutions come from listening to everyone: dog owners, neighbours, environmental advocates, and park users.
Let's work together to find a balanced approach that respects both people, pets and nature.
